Deck fascia stock and joint planner
What this worksheet covers
Keep exposed deck edges, returns, interruptions and supplied joint locations attached to their physical fascia cuts.
Fascia is finishing trim. The worksheet does not design structural rim boards, fastening capacity or thermal movement. Enter the exact selected product instructions and measured corner treatment.
Import a saved measurement
Select a source, then an existing field with the same measurement unit. Add region or station rows first when needed. Confirm physical meaning and datum; importing a number does not approve a design or replace the rest of the required measurements.
Enter the measured layout and selected product information, then calculate. Exact schedules and a drawing appear here.

Method and limits
A physical cutting plan for exposed edges and returns with joints you supply. It does not invent seams to make short stock fit.
Prepare the edge and joint schedule
- Mark each edge start and its corner datum, then locate openings and approved joint centres cumulatively from that start.
- Measure returns separately.
- Copy actual profile height, course count, end/joint gaps, stock lengths, trim, kerf and fasteners from the exact product instructions; a convenient stock length does not authorize a seam.
Illustrative one-course 12 ft edge, no openings, with an approved joint at 6 ft, zero free-end gap and a 0.25 in joint gap yields two 71.875 in finished pieces. With 0.25 in trim at each end, each blank is 72.375 in. A 72 in stock option cannot supply either blank; select documented longer stock or resolve the supplied joint schedule. Keep allocated stock, reusable remnants and extra uncut reserve separate.
Interruptions and approved joint stations
Enter each edge’s length, openings, approved joint stations, selected courses, actual profile height, end/joint gaps and corner datum. Openings remove intervals. At a supplied joint, each adjoining segment loses half the joint gap; free ends and opening boundaries lose the entered end gap. Each finished piece adds trim at both ends to obtain its cutting blank. Returns are entered as their own measured edges; no corner allowance is invented.
blank length = finished segment length + 2 × per-end trim
Cutting loss is separate from reserve
Unspliced blanks are allocated to selected stock lengths with saw kerf and a minimum reusable remnant. The allocator reports a valid bounded plan; a retained best plan after search exhaustion is a heuristic, while a conservative fallback is reported separately. Neither is a claim of global minimum stock. Additional reserve is ceil(assigned stock count × reserve/100), separately for each stock length, and remains uncut reserve stock. Fasteners are supplied fasteners per finished piece multiplied by piece count, rounded to the entered package size without another reserve.
What the product record supplies
Exact fascia and fastener records provide cutting and installation conditions. At most 2,000 cuts are supported. The plan does not establish thermal movement, fastening suitability, approved joint placement, edge support or structural adequacy; those must already be supplied.
Reconcile the finished surface and openings in Deck Boards first, then measure exposed fascia edges or the enclosure grade separately; surface area does not supply either schedule.
