Read the pipe family and the physical end together
A nominal size alone cannot identify a mating connection. This reference checks the family, material, nominal inches and pipe or hub end against two recorded adapter combinations. It is a small catalog lookup, not a universal fitting selector. A hub receives a mating pipe or spigot; distinguish the end on your component from the end on the adapter.
Documented adapter combinations
The table exposes the same records used by the lookup, before you enter any measurements. The checked dates below belong to those catalog records. The linked NDS product descriptions were checked again for this page on 2 October 2026; confirm current instructions for your actual parts.
| Adapter | Components entered in the lookup | Physical adapter ends | Manufacturer source |
|---|---|---|---|
| NDS 451 | 4 in HDPE single-wall-corrugated: pipe 4 in PVC sewer-and-drain: hub | 4-inch corrugated hub × 4-inch S&D spigot | NDS 451 product details Record checked 2026-09-30 |
| NDS 3P15 | 3 in PVC dwv-schedule-40: pipe 3 in PVC sewer-and-drain: pipe | 3-inch DWV/Schedule 40 hub × 3-inch S&D hub, solvent-weld | NDS 3P15 product details Record checked 2026-09-30 |
Worked lookup: the 4-inch NDS 451 transition
Choose Load worked example. End A is family single-wall-corrugated, material HDPE, nominal inches 4, end pipe. End B is sewer-and-drain, PVC, 4, hub. The model is 451. Select Calculate to get Documented family/end match and NDS 451. Outside diameters remain unspecified in the source records.
Its corrugated hub receives the corrugated pipe; its S&D spigot mates with the entered S&D hub. NDS expressly excludes DWV Schedule 40 from this product. Changing End A to dwv-schedule-40 while keeping model 451 produces Documented incompatibility. A measured outside diameter does not override that exclusion.
A different lookup: the 3-inch NDS 3P15
Enter dwv-schedule-40, PVC, 3, pipe for End A and sewer-and-drain, PVC, 3, pipe for End B; select model 3P15. Both entered components are pipe ends because this adapter has two receiving hubs. The documented result is NDS 3P15, a hub-to-hub solvent-weld transition. It is not a 3-inch version of 451.
When the result is unknown
Copy the family identifiers above exactly; the lookup does not translate informal names. Reversing End A and End B preserves a documented match, but does not reverse the physical adapter ends. An empty model field searches both records; a model entry restricts the search to that part. A different size, family or connection end can return Unknown / unverified. That means this catalog has no matching evidence, not that every possible fitting is incompatible.
Record markings, material, family, nominal size and each physical end. Keep measured outside diameter separately. Ask the manufacturer or supplier for an exact part and documented mating ends when evidence is missing; do not substitute a similarly sized adapter from this table. The lookup selects no purchase quantity and proves no sealing, pressure rating, drainage capacity, installation suitability or legal outlet.
